Since leaving the park that day, I have though of my seven young friends often. I suspect they will shelve their problems, ignoring them as best they are able. That is the typical Mormon response when unanswered questions arise. Overloaded shelves frequently fail, and the fall thereof can be great. Someday, I hope these young people will examine hidden items on their shelves.
I lift each one in prayer, Dear God, help them desire your truth above all things. Give them, I pray, the courage to look.
Words of Life
Many of Jesus’ disciples rejected Him, turned and walked another path (John 6:66). Seeing this, Jesus asked the twelve, “Will you also go away?” Peter’s answer was straightforward and powerful: “To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).
Isaiah wrote of God’s promise, “the grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8). Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away”(Matthew 24:35, & Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33). Biblical records, from centuries before Christ until today, prove incredible consistency. God faithfully preserved His Word. The only plausible conclusion is that Jesus kept His promise. Like Peter 2,000 years ago, I have the words of eternal life. God’s preserved Word declares His nature, defines the way to justification, and grants the promise of salvation.
I join Peter in declaring, apart from Jesus, where would I go? In His preserved Word, I cling to the words of eternal life.
